PURPOSE: To obtain a granular detergent composition improved in detergency and solubility by incorporating an α-sulfofatty acid derivative as the active deterging component.

CONSTITUTION: This detergent composition contains an α-sulfofatty acid derivative of formula I and optionally another α-sulfofatty acid derivative of formula II. In the formulas, R1 and R2 are each 6-18C alkyl or alkenyl; M1 and M2 are each H, an alkali metal, a half-equivalent alkaline earth metal, or ammonium; A1O is C2H4O or C3H6O; (m) is the average number of moles of addition and is 1-50; R3 is 6-18C alkyl or alkenyl; R4 is H or 1-4C alkyl; M3 is H, an alkali metal, a half-equivalent alkaline earth metal, or ammonium; A2O is C2O4 or C3H6; and (n) is the average number of moles of A2O added and is a number of 1-50.
