Abstract:
To manufacture granular irons with proper grain diameter stably and continuously over a long term.SOLUTION: The present invention relates to: a granular iron manufacturing apparatus comprising a tundish 1 including a nozzle 2 for molten iron discharge, a molten iron receiver 3 which causes molten iron, which is discharged from the nozzle 2 and flows down, to collide with a liquid column of the molten iron, and a cooling water tank 4 which drops droplets of the molten iron, which have collided with the molten iron receiver 3 and dispersed around the same, in cooling water to cool the same; and a grain iron manufacturing method with use of this apparatus. A nozzle diameter d0 of the nozzle 2, a discharge speed v0 of the molten iron from the nozzle 2, and a vertical distance hd from a tip of the nozzle 2 to a top face of the molten iron receiver 3 are configured so that a collision Reynolds number I satisfies 3000≤I≤7500, and are set in the discharge speed v0 and the nozzle vertical distance hd so that the collision Reynolds number I satisfies 3000≤I≤7500 when the nozzle diameter is so made as to be a nozzle diameter at a use limit time of the nozzle 2 (herein, a nozzle when the nozzle 2 becomes use limit due to expansion of the nozzle diameter caused by nozzle wear).SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4
