Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a crucible having satisfactory durability and ensuring low energy consumption by kneading a refractory material blend contg. starting materials for flaky graphite, silicon carbide, fine boron carbide powder and/or fine titanium boride powder and fine metallic silicon powder with pitch tar under heating, molding the resultant kneaded material under high pressure and firing it under reduction.
SOLUTION: A refractory material blend contg. 100 pts.wt. starting material for flaky graphite, 350-600 pts.wt. starting material for silicon carbide and 50-100 pts.wt., in total, of starting materials for at least one of fine boron carbide powder and fine titanium boride powder and for fine metallic silicon powder is kneaded with pitch tar under heating. The resultant kneaded material is molded under high pressure and fired under reduction. The starting materials for the fine powders are preferably 10-30 wt.% starting material for at least one of fine baron carbide powder and fine titanium boride powder and 70-90 wt.% starting material for fine metallic silicon powder. Cold isostatic press molding is preferably adopted.
