PURPOSE: To facilitate to hold the side upper end part in such a way that in a gunwale having sectional structure in which a plate-form material is protruded from the side upper end part toward inboard, a heavy thickness part is formed at the plate-form inboard end part, a concave part is formed between the heavy thickness part and the side.

CONSTITUTION: A gunwale 10 for small ship is positioned at the upper end part of the side 12. A fiber reinforced plastic made plate-form material 14 is formed at the upper end part of this side 12 in such a way that it is protruded toward the inboard side, a heavy thickness part 16 is formed at the end part on the inboard side of this plate-form material 14. The heavy thickness part 16 is formed so as to cover a quasi-regular square lumber 18, after the lumber 18 is covered, the rest part 20 thereof on the plate-form material 14 is bonded on the back side of the plate- form material 14. Thus, as resulted from forming the heavy thickness part 16, a concave part 22 is formed between the side 12 and the heavy thickness part 16, which is constituted so that the heavy thickness part 16 can be easily held by the operator. The clearance between the rest part 20 of said plate-form material 14 and the upper end part of the side 12 is filled up by mish-mash 28, which is covered with a mat 30.
