PURPOSE: To provide a hair rinse usable effectively on the hair after acid hair dye application, improving color retainability of the hair dye, also capable of effectively making the hair dampish.

CONSTITUTION: The objective hair rinse containing (A) 5-10wt.% of a quaternary ammonium salt of formula I [R1-R4 are such that one or two of them 10-24C alkyl, 10-24C hydroxyalkyl or R(CH2CH2O)n (R is 10-24C alkyl or 10-24C hydroxyalkyl; n is 1-10), the rest being 1-3C alkyl, (CH2CH2O)n, (CH(CH3)CH2O)n (n is 1-5), benzyl or cinnamyl; X is halogen or 1-2C alkyl sulfate], (B) 0.5-10wt.% of a 12-26C alkyl or alkenyl group-bearing higher alcohol, (C) an acid selected from acetic acid, tartaric acid, boric acid, succinic acid, citric acid, salicylic acid, phosphoric acid and hydrochloric acid, and (D) 0.1-5wt.% of an oily ingredient of formula II (p is 1-21; R1, R2, R3 are each 1-10C alkyl; R4, R5, R6 are such that when l, m and n are each 1, they are such 1-21C alkyl or 1-21C hydroxyalkyl; when l, m and n are each 0, they are each H).
