PURPOSE: A halogen-containing rubber composition which has prolonged stability during a vulcanization step, and is vulcanized at high temperatures, and which provides rubber articles having excellent aging resistance, prepared by compounding a halogen-containing rubber with a monothioethylene glycol compound.
CONSTITUTION: A halogen-containing rubber is compounded with a monothioethylene glycol compound represented by formula I, wherein R1, R2, R3 and R4 are each H, an alkyl, an alkenyl, an aryl, a cycloalkyl or a substituted group thereof and R1 and R3 may be combined together to form a ring. Examples of the halogen- containing rubber include chloroprene rubber and epichlorohydrin rubber. As the compound of formula I, a compound having at least two OH groups and SH groups is preferred from a point of effect. Examples of such a compound includes those represented by formulas II and III. The amount of the compound used is 0.5W 20pts.wt. pref., 1W8pts.wt./100pts.wt. of the halogen-containing rubber.
