Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a new halogenated vinyl derivative useful as a raw material for a liquid crystal compound having conjugated enyne bond in the molecule and producible with simple procedures.
CONSTITUTION: A halogenated vinyl derivative of the formula I (ring C and ring D are 1,4-phenylene, 1,4-cyclohexylene, 1,3-dioxane-2,5-diyl, pyridine-2,5-diyl, etc.; G1 is I, Br or Cl; M is covalent bond, 1,2-ethylene, etc.; (m) and (l) are 0-2; (o) is 0 or 2; R is halogen, cyano, alkyl, etc.), e.g. 2-(4-ethylcyclohexyl)-E- vinyl bromide. The compound of the formula I can be produced by reacting an aldehyde derivative of the formula II with a phosphinylide produced in the reaction system by treating a phosphonium salt of the formula III(G3 and G4 are halogen) with a base. A liquid crystal compound of the formula V1 is obtained by reacting a compound of the formula IV (A is phenylene, etc.; B is phenylene, etc.; L is covalent bond, etc.; (n) is 0 or 1; Y is alkyl, etc.; X and Z are H or F; W is F or H) with a compound of the formula V.
