To obtain such a halogenation catalyst for N-N-di-substd. formamide that has little volatility and is hardly harmful for an operator and the environment by preparing the catalyst from a compd. expressed by specified structural formula or a mixture of these compds.
The halogenation catalyst used to convert org. hydroxyl groups and thiol groups into org. halides such as the production of carboxylic acid chloride from carboxylic acid is prepared from a compd. expressed by formula or a mixture of these compds. In formula, R1 and R2 are independently selected from (a) unsusbtd. or substd. 5 to 30C alkyl groups, 5 to 30C alkenyl groups, 5 to 30C alkynyl groups, and connecting groups and (b) unsubstd. or substd. aminoalkyl groups, polyamino alkyl groups, aminoalkenyl groups, and polyaminoalkenyl groups. Substituents are independently selected from functional groups which do not react with the material to be halogenated or with the halogenating agent to be used.
