PURPOSE: To obtain a nitrogen-containing heterocyclic compd. easily and efficiently substd. by Cl or Br by halogenating an OH of a nitrogen-containing heterocyclic starting material of which the ring upper position adjacent to a ring nitrogen atom is substd. by OH by using a specific halogenating agent.
CONSTITUTION: OH of a nitrogen-containing heterocyclic starting substance substd. by a compd. represented by formula I (wherein R1-R4 are H, 1-4C alkyl, alkoxy, halo 1-4C alkyl and alkoxy or NO2 and at least two of them are H and Z' is H, Cl, CH3 or OCH3) such as 4-hydroxyquinazoline is reacted with 1-1.3 equivalent per 1 mol of the starting substance of a dynamic type halogenating agent of a triphenyl phosphite-halogen complex represented by formula II (wherein Q is H, 1-4C alkyl or alkoxy and X is Cl or Br) in an inert org. solvent in the presence of a tertiary amine base at 30°C or lower to be halogenated to obtain the objective compd. useful as quinazoline antifungal agent, an insecticide or a miticide.
