To provide a hand-held surgical instrument that accesses an interior region of a body.
The hand-held instrument is equipped with a first functional instrument 20 with a first handle 22 including a surface gripped by a first finger and a surface gripped by a second finger to simultaneously grip with at least two fingers and a second functional instrument 40 with a second handle 42 including a surface gripped by a third finger and a surface gripped by a fourth finger to simultaneously grip with at least two fingers. The first functional instrument engages the second functional instrument to form a composite instrument. When the first functional instrument is coupled with the second functional instrument, the first handle engages the second handle to form a composite handle forming finger-held composite surfaces which includes the surface gripped by the first finger, the surface gripped by the second finger, the surface gripped by the third finger, and the surface gripped by the fourth finger to be gripped by four fingers. The composite handle includes a catching mechanism which resists the disengagement of the first and the second functional instruments.
