PURPOSE: To eliminate an overlap in the joining parts, and prevent a danger by arranging guide plates to carry hands of a passenger over to the next moving handrails in the joining parts of the respective moving handrails adjacent to each other in the carrying direction in a moving footpath accelerated and decelerated by sliding respective pallets mutually in the lateral direction.
CONSTITUTION: In a moving footpath where a large number of pallets 5 continued in an endless shape are circulated and moved along rails continuing in the shape of combining a straight line and a curved line with each other and are accelerated and decelerated by sliding the respective pallets 5 mutually in the lateral direction, an overall length of the footpath is divided into plural parts, and independent moving handrails 1 to 3 are arranged in the respective parts. The respective handrails 1 to 3 are arranged so as not to overlap with each other, and the respective handrails 1 to 3 are operated at speed close to speed of the nearby pallets 5. In this case, guide plates 4 to carry hands of a passenger over to the next moving handrails are arranged in the joining parts of the respective adjacent moving handrails 1 to 3. Combtooth- shaped grooves are arranged on the surfaces of the moving handrails 1 to 3, and connection between these and the guide plates 4 is smoothed.
