PURPOSE: To cure efficiently gelatin by using the compd. expressed by the formula thereby speeding up the curing effect on the gelatin, decreasing a post-cured film and improving the solubility in water.
CONSTITUTION: The compd. expressed by the formula is used as a hardener for the gelatin. The amt. of the hardener to be used can be selected as desired according to purposes. The hardener is normally usable at the propertion within the range from 0.1 up to 20wt% by the weight of the dry gelatin. The hardener is more preferably used at the proportion within the range from 0.5 up to 10wt%. There is no particular limitation for the photographic layer for which the hardener is used; the hardener is usable for not only a silver halide emulsion layer but also any gelatin-contg. photograhic layers including, for example, an undercoating layer, back layer, filter layer, intermediate layer, overcoat layer, etc.
