PURPOSE: To enable the desired hatch cover panel only to be removed without other panels unnecessarily removed, by installing a compression bar consisting of bar material of semicircular cross section.
CONSTITUTION: A gasket 1 and a compression bar 2 are accurately aligned by means of a horizontal positioning mechanism 5 and cleat mechanism. The compression bar 2 and gasket 1 are compressed to each other by a designated amount, δ, accomplishing watertight sealing between ends of adjacent hatch cover panels. Since the gasket 1 and compression bar 2 are piled up on top of another, the hatch cover panel 4 with compression bar 2 can be removed with other panel 3 with gasket 1 left in closed position, or conversely the hatch cover panel 3 with gasket 1 can be removed with other panel 4 with compression bar 2 left in closed position.
