The head protecting airbag device 200 includes an airbag 250 embedded inside a head rest 120 for inflating and developing in a range from the head rest to the vehicle front side, and a cushion material 240 arranged abutting on the face on the vehicle front side of the airbag inside the head rest for cleaving during the inflation and development of the airbag. The airbag has a main chamber 252 for inflating and developing in the vicinity of the head rest or in a range from the vicinity of the head rest to the vicinity of the shoulder of a seat back 110, and a sub chamber 260 extending in one or both of the vertical and cross directions of the main chamber.
