PURPOSE: To enhance continuous operating performance by a method wherein the heat converter is partitioned radially by partition plates and is partitioned concentrically by a partition wall which is permeable to hydrogen gas but impermeable to metal hydrides, different metal hydrides are filled in the inner and outer chambers, the chambers are contacted with heat exchangers and the heat converter is rotated.
CONSTITUTION: The heat converter 1 is rotated, contacting the chambers 12, 15 with heat-exchanging chambers 31, 34 and contacting the chambers 13, 14 with heat-exchanging chambers 32, 33. Since the chamber 32 is heated by utilizing the solar heat, the metal hydride A in the chamber 13 generates hydrogen gas, which is absorbed in the metal hydride B in the chamber 12. When the transfer of hydrogen gas is completed, the heat converter 1 is rotated so as to interchange the mates of contact between each of the chambers 12W15 and each of the heat-exchanging chambers 31W34, whereby a reverse reaction takes place between the chambers 12, 13 and a normal reaction occurs between the chambers 14, 15. By repeating these operations, the continuous operation can be conducted at a high thermal efficiency.
