PURPOSE: To prepare a thermoplastic molding material with a high thermal distortion resistance and transparent independently of the preparation method (continuous or discontinuous by using a copolymer with specific constituents comprising a methyl methacrylate and an N-substituted amide of methacrylic acid.
CONSTITUTION: This thermoplastic molding material contains monomers of (a) a methyl methacrylate and (b) an N-substituted amide of methacrylic acid, where (a) is 5-95 wt.% and (b) is 95-5 wt.% based on (a+b). Then the monomer (b) is the N-substituted amide denoted in formula I (R is primary, secondary or tertiary 1-12C alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl or 2-6C and 7-12C aralkyl). The molding material may contain about 0.01-50 pts.wt. of conventional additives based on 100 pts.wt. of the copolymer.
