PURPOSE: To save energy required for a sterilizing caldron by utilizing effectively the heat of steam exhausted from the sterilizing caldron.
CONSTITUTION: In thermal sterilization apparatus for growing mushrooms wherein a growing bottle filled with culture ground is held in a sterilizing caldron 10 and heating sterilization is conducted by steam, an exhaust steam heat exchanger 30 having a first chamber 31 which communicates with the sterilizing caldron 10 and into which the steam exhausted from the sterilizing caldron 10 is introduced and a second chamber 32 which is provided in isolation from the first chamber 31 by a partition wall 33 and to which water is supplied from outside to be stored therein and being equipped with a heat pipe 34 which is provided in communication between the first chamber 31 and the second chamber 32 and conducts the heat from the first chamber 31 to the second chamber 32 is installed, and the steam produced by heat exchange in the exhaust steam heat exchanger 30 is sent out to the sterilizing caldron 10 for sterilization.
