PURPOSE: To reduce in size a housing by combining a plate fin type heat exchanger having a large heat exchanging rate for a volume and a lateral H-shaped gas-liquid separator.
CONSTITUTION: The heat exchanger comprises plate fin heat exchanging units 1 arranged in a housing 2 via refrigerant and fluid-to-be-cooled tubes to so heat exchange refrigerant with fluid to be cooled as to heat exchanging the refrigerant with the fluid to be cooled while separating and mixing gas and liquid refrigerants, and a gas-liquid separator 10 in the housing 2. The separator 10 has upper and lower containers of laterally laid hollow cylindrical members so sealed at both ends in a sealed state as to become a lateral H-shape, and an intermediate container communicating with both the containers.
