PURPOSE: To improve the heat transferring ability of a condenser by promoting separation of liquid from vapor in a header, by providing a gas/liquid separating device in the neighborhood of the outlet of heat transfer tubes for heating medium, in a heat exchanger having many heat transfer tubes and a pair of headers which connect both ends of the heat transfer tubes, installed in an equipment such as an air-conditioner.
CONSTITUTION: Headers 2 and 3 are connected to both ends of heat transfer tubes, and a partition pannel 4 is provided in each header 2 and 3. The horizontal sections of the headers 2 and 3 are semicircular and the heat transfer tubes 1 are protruded into the headers slipping off the center positions of them. The mixed flow of vapor and liquid being fed into the headers 2 and 3 from heat transfer tubes 1 rotates along the curved inner walls 2a and 3a of the headers 2 and 3, respectively, so that the vapor and the liquid adhering to the inner walls 2a and 3a are completely separated from each other by the centrifugal force. The liquid drips along the inner walls 2a and 3a, while the vapor flows through the inside of the headers 2 and 3, accordingly the vapor only is fed into the heat transfer tubes 1 on the lower stage. The liquid gathered in the lower part of a header 2 is fed into the headers 2 and 3 on the lower stage, passing through a gap 4a which is provided between the partition pannel 4 and the inner wall of a header 2.
