Title:
HEAT INSULATION METHOD FOR MOLTEN METAL
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH10296404
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

To efficiently heat-insulate the molten metal under the condition of the excellent working environment by adding the heat insulation material for the molten metal which contains the vegetable fiber and is carbonized and granulated so as to be automatically distributed on the surface of the molten metal to add the heat insulation material without being scattered by the ascending current of the hot air.

Soybean cake is sued as the raw material of the heat insulation material, dehydrated and formed into the prescribed dimensions and shape by a granulation machine. The formed granulated material is carbonized and classified, and the water content regulated. The heat insulation material contains a large volume of vegetable fiber, and can be formed without adding the binder. The formed heat insulation material is slightly weak and brittle squeezing strength, and the bulk specific gravity is 0.28-0.32. The heat insulation material is added onto the surface of the molten steel delivered to a ladle after the refining in a converter, etc., using an adding device. Because the heat insulation material is added by the adding device, the heat insulation material uniformly covers the surface of the molten metal without staying at the place where it is added.
