PURPOSE: To enable control of transportation of a quantity of heat, by controlling a shape of a wick having capillary action, in a captioned heat pipe transporting the heat through changes of phases, such as vaporization and condensation.
CONSTITUTION: A wick 2A is secured in a glass made container 1 of a heat pipe extending from one edge up to the vicinity of the other edge, a wick 2B which is separated from a wick 2A is arranged inside the container 1 slidably in an axial direction, and the wick 2B is shifted by an electromagnet 3 located around the container 1. When the wick 2B touches the wick 2A, a liquid phase thermal medium can be transported by capillary action of these wicks extending from the one edge to the other edge of the container 1 as a continual wick 2, then it is possible to let this device operate as the heat pipe in itself. When the wick 2B, however, is separated from the wick 2A depending on a location of the electromagnet 3, the device does not become operative as the heat pipe.
