This heat pump hot water supply system includes the open tanks 7a, 7b, a plurality of water heaters 2a1, 2a2, ..., 2an, and a hot water supply pipe 11. The plurality of water heaters receive water supply, heat the water and supply hot water to the open tanks. The plurality of water heaters have a heat pump cycle, a hot water supply pump, and first control parts 5a1, 5a2, ..., 5an. The hot water supply pump distributes the heated water to the open tanks 7a, 7b through the hot water supply pipe 11. The first control parts 5a1, 5a2, ..., 5an start an operation of the hot water supply pump with low capacity, then start a compressor, and increase a capacity of the hot water supply pump when a prescribed condition is satisfied. The prescribed condition is that at least one of hot water supply temperature of the water heaters 2a1, 2a2, ..., 2an, the lapse time after the start of the compressor, a refrigerant temperature and a refrigerant pressure is kept within a prescribed range.
