Abstract:

PURPOSE: In starting the apparatus in producing hydrogen by decomposition reaction of methanol and water as raw materials to prepare an apparatus into a steady state in a short time, by utilizing heat quantity of a combustion waste gas from a heating furnace for supplying heat of reaction for heating the raw material.

CONSTITUTION: Methanol 1 and pure water 2 are introduced into an evaporation superheater 4, heated by a heating medium from a heating medium heating furnace 15, further introduced into a superheater 20 and heated by utilizing the heat quantity of combustion waste gas from the heating medium heating furnace 15. The heated methanol 1 and pure water 2 are then introduced into a reactor 6 filled with a catalyst and heated with the heating medium from the heating medium heating furnace 15 to cause decomposition reaction and form hydrogen gas or a mixed gas of hydrogen and carbon monoxide. The resultant formed gas is then introduced into a raw material preheater 3 to preheat the raw materials and the gas is passed through a cooler 8, etc., and taken out. Thereby the apparatus can be started in a short time by installation of the superheater 20 even in starting when the raw materials cannot be preheated with the raw material preheater 3.
