PURPOSE: To obtain a heat transfer type printer capable of giving good-quality printing and having stable ink transfer effects even when the printing time becomes shorter by using a heat transfer section consisting of a thermal head, a platen, a cooling part and a peeling roller.

CONSTITUTION: A transfer paper 4 and a paper 5 to be transferred are heated and pressed by a thermal head 6' and a platen 7' and cooled by a cooling plate 9 and a roller 13. They are separated then by a peeling roller 8'. The temperature of the cooling plate 9 is detected by a temperature sensor 11, and a Peltier element 10 is cooled by a temperature control circuit 12 to control the cooling plate 9 to a given temperature. Even when the paper feeding speeds increase, the cooling plate 9 can cool the temperature of ink in such a way that the temperature is less than the complete freezing point at f' point.
