To provide a heat treatment apparatus and a method for producing steel which realize heat treatment for obtaining the the steel having a target property by accurately matching the surface temperature and the inner temperature of the steel with the targets.
The heat treatment apparatus is provided with an induction-heating unit (6), a straightening unit (5), an arithmetic unit (14) for calculating the electric power supplied to the induction-heating unit based on the size of the steel, transport speed, target heating temperature and planned temperature of the steel before heating, and an electric source unit (12) for supplying the calculated electric power. The arithmetic unit, calculates the electric power for heating so that the surface temperature of the steel during heating is at not higher than a first target temperature and the difference between the temperature at a prescribed position in the inner part in the thickness direction of the steel at completion of the heating and a second target temperature falls within the prescribed range, or the electric power for heating so that the surface temperature of the steel at completion of heating becomes not lower than a third target temperature and the temperature at the prescribed position in the inner part in the thickness direction of the steel during heating becomes not higher than a fourth target temperature.
