PURPOSE: To hold the temp. in a tundish uniformly with virtually no need for modification of the equipment around the tundish by combining an ingate having a molten metal passage bisecting the tundish and a heater consisting of a coil and an iron core.
CONSTITUTION: The inside of a tundish 1 is divided to a molten metal teeming tank 3 and a molten metal feeding tank 4 by an ingate 2, and both tanks are communicated with grooves 5, 5' in both lower parts. A vertically penetrating cylindrical cavity 6 is provided at the center of the ingate 2, and the central leg 8 of an inside iron type tripod iron core 7 penetrates through this. Both legs 9, 9' are provided vertically along the long side wall surface of the tundish 1, and the three legs are connected in a loop shape at the top and bottom. A heating coil 10 is wound spirally on the leg 8, and the leg is protected against direct contact with the molten metal. When the molten metal is teemed into the tank 3, it enters the tank 4 through the grooves 5, 5' and flows through a nozzle 11 into a water cooled mold. When the coil 10 is energized, the molten metal is heated, by which the drop of the initial casting temp. is prevented and the uniformity of temp. is maintained. The speed at which the molten metal passes through the grooves 5, 5' is fairly high and the stirring by this contributes also to the maintainance of uniform temp.
