PURPOSE: To provide a new substituted phenoxycarboxylic acid amide derivative useful as an agricultural fungicide having excellent controlling effect against rice blast, downy mildew of cucumber, etc.
CONSTITUTION: The compound of formula I [X is halogen or (substituted) lower alkyl; n is integer of 0-3; R1 and R2 are H or lower alkyl; A is (substituted) heteroaryl], e.g. N-(cyano-3-thienylmethyl)-2-(2,4-dichloro-3-methylphenoxy) propionamide. The compound of formula I excluding the compound of formula VIII (R is H or lower alkyl) can easily be produced by reacting a compound of formula VI with a compound of formula V preferably in the presence of an acid acceptor. The compound of formula V is obtained from a compound of formula II and a compound of formula VII (Y is halogen; R3 is lower alkyl) through the compounds of formula III and formula IV. The objective compound exhibits excellent controlling effect against rice blast generated in paddy rice field by foliar treatment and submerged application and is absolutely free from phytotoxicity to rice plant.
