PURPOSE: To markedly increase transport ability by elevator setting space of minimum limit.

CONSTITUTION: A device comprises rotary shafts 3, 4 and helical guide rails 10 arranged in shafts 1, 2 set up in a building, upper/lower part horizontal moving mechanisms 11, 12 arranged in upper/lower parts between the shafts 1, 2, plurality of grooves 27 formed in the axial direction of the rotary shafts 3, 4 and a staircase device 19. The staircase device 19 comprises a staircase part 20 formed of circular arc-shaped horizontal member, gear part 21 formed in an internal peripheral surface of the staircase part 20, vertical members 22, 23 provided in both sides of the staircase part 20, rollers 24 provided in a peripheral end part of the staircase part 20 and rollers 25 provided in a lower end part of the vertical members 22, 23. The gear part 21 of the staircase part 20 is meshed with the groove 27, to also make the rollers 24, 25 runnable along the helical guide rail 10, and further the staircase device 19 is moved between the shafts 1, 2 by the horizontal moving mechanisms 11, 12.
