To provide a hermetically sealed type adapter which is easily manufactured, assembled and is usable for an industrially standard type connector.
The hermetically sealed type adapter hermetically receives a ferrule 14 so that the end face of the ferrule 14 is protected from humidity when the ferrule 14 of the standard optical fiber connector is inserted into the adapter. The adapter has hermetically sealed sleeves 54, 56 equipped with hermetically sealed surfaces 92 at one ends thereof so as to hermetically seal the periphery of the ferrule 14 in the circumferential direction. A lined up sleeve 52, which is so dimensioned as to operationally line up the end face of the ferrule 14, is coaxially disposed at the inside of the hermetically sealed sleeves 54, 56. A retainer 58 holds the hermetically sealed sleeves 54, 56, and it is possible to fit a connector of the retainer 58.
