Title:
HIGH DAMPING CAPACITY CAST IRON PARTS AND THEIR MANUFACTURE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH03232943
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To ensure strength and wear resistance in high damping capacity cast iron parts while their damping capacity is improved by setting carbon equivalent value to high one, casting cast iron parts contg. specified content of Cr and Sn, thereafter subjecting the parts to knock-out at a specified temp. and thereafter subjecting the parts to forced cooling.

CONSTITUTION: Cast iron parts having a compsn. constituted of, by weight, 4.3 to 4.9% carbon equivalent, 0.25 to 0.5% Cr, 0.05 to 0.12% Sn, 0.4 to 1.2% Mn, ≤0.1% P, ≤0.15% S and the balance Fe are cast. After the casting, the parts are subjected to knock-out at the A1 transformation point or above and are thereafter subjected to forced cooling to properly ensure the size of crystallized graphite. When the average peripheral length of the crystallized graphite is prescribed to about 160 to 260μm, the damping capacity of the parts is made more excellent. This parts are used for brake disk rotors, brake drums or the like.
