Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-frequency induction heating furnace and a method for melting miscellaneous radioactive solid wastes which does not need a long shutdown for the restoration of the induction heating furnace even if an accident doing damage to a canister in a furnace occurs.
SOLUTION: After the space between a furnace wall of the melting furnace 4 and an outer wall of the canister 2 is filled with nonconductive sandlike substance 8 with high-temperature resistance and fluidity to melt, cool and solidify miscellaneous solids 1, the sandlike substance 8 are discharged. Notably, it is preferable that the sandlike substance 8 should be reused after a portion of it containing radioactivity is removed.
