Abstract:

PURPOSE: To reduce the influence of an artificial structure of compression due to the compression for a graphic image having a high space frequency component.
CONSTITUTION: A layout 50 includes a text detector 62 which detects the cells 54 of a source image 52 that is liable to generate an artificial structure of compression when each cell 54 is compressed by a compressor 58 to be stored in a compressed image storage part 60. The detector 62 generates a bit table in a text detection/storage part 64 of each cell 54 including a high space frequency component. When a compressed image is expanded by an expander 66, the cells 54 pass through a pixel saturator 68. If a cell 54 is equal to a 'text' cell that is referred to in the part 64, the saturator 68 saturates all pixels of the text cell in the color of a prescribed color set. Then the expanded image is stored again in an image storage part 70.
