PURPOSE: To provide a high strength film material having lightweight properties, excellent in gas barrier properties, mechanical strength such as tensile strength and low temp. characteristics and holding proper flexibility.
CONSTITUTION: A high strength film material is composed of a laminate prepared by laminating polyolefinic resin layers to both surfaces of a core layer consisting of a molecularly oriented molded body of an ultrahigh MW ethylenic polymer whose intrinsic viscosity [η] is at least 5dl/g and a union fabric or mixed fabric of one or more kind of a fiber composed of aramide, polyamide or polyester. By using the aforementioned specific materials, the high strength film material having lightweight properties and excellent in gas barrier properties, strength and low temp. characteristics is provided and suitably used as the material of a balloon such as a meteorological observation balloon, an aerial photographing balloon or an advertising balloon.
