To provide a high strength martensitic stainless steel strip or steel sheet in which deterioration in shape caused by martensitic transformation is suppressed, and which has an excellent shape flatness.
The high strength martensitic stainless steel strip has a composition to achieve the purpose containing ≤0.15%C, ≤2.0% Si, ≤2.0% Mn, 2.0 to 6.0% Ni, 12.0 to 20.0% Cr, ≤2.0% Mo and ≤0.10% N, and in which Md (N) value defined by the formula (1) is controlled to ≥125, and has a structure in which martensite formed from inversely transformed austenite is dispersed into a matrix. The inversely transformed austenite is formed by subjecting a stainless steel strip where the martensite is formed in a cooling stage after solution treatment or stain induced martensite is formed by cold working to heating at 550 to 650°C: Md(N)=580-520C-2Si-16Mn-16Cr-23Ni-300N-10 Mo...(1).
