Title:
HIGH-STRENGTH ROCK WOOL AND ITS PRODUCTION
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3173336
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a rock wool low in impurities and having excellent resilience and tensile strength by melting granular fired matter formed by prefiring of industrial waste, such as short dust, under specific conditions in an electric furnace and forming the fibers therefrom by a high-speed rotating body.
SOLUTION: The raw materials mainly composed of the industrial waste, such as shot dust, generated in a process for producing rock wool are first prefired for a time of 1 to 60 minutes in a firing temp. region of 1000 to 1250°C in an oxidizing atmosphere. The lump material obtd. by this prefiring is charged into the electric furnace and is melted. The fibers are then formed therefrom by the high-speed rotating body, by which the desired high-strength rock wool is obtd. The industrial waste generated in the process of producing the rock wool is mainly composed of the shot dust which is a non-fiber material. Such industrial waste is rock wool dust, defective articles, the waste rock wool materials and crops produced on construction site as well as scrap and waste materials of fabricated products of rock wool (for example, sound-absorbing materials for ceilings) which are heretofore partly recycled but are mostly discarded.
