Title:
HIGH TEMPERATURE DESULFURIZATION BY MICROORGANISM
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH1036859
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

To achieve effective desulfurization by decomposing organic sulfur compounds by using a microorganism belonging to Paenibacillus genus and having ability to decompose organic sulfur compounds.

A culture medium for a high temperature-desulfurizative bacterium is prepared by adding a liquid containing about 50 to 500ppm of sulfur- containing heterocyclic compounds such as dibenzothiophene to a culture medium containing a carbon source such as glucose, a nitrogen source such as yeast extract or NH4Cl, a phosphoric acid salt, carbonic acid salt, Mg salt, Ni salt, Zn salt, Ca salt, Mn salt and vitamins. This culture medium is inoculated with about 1 to 2vol% inoculum of a microorganism belonging to Paenibacillus genus and having ability to decompose sulfur compounds such as Paenibacillus sp. A-11-1 strain or sp. A-11-2 strain as a seed, and was subjected to shake culture under aeration condition at a pH of 6 to 8 at a temperature of about 37 to 60°C for about 1 to 2 days. The resultant mixture is adjusted to have a pH of about 2 and is extracted with ethyl acetate and the like, and subjected to analysis with respect to the reaction products. The formation of 2- hydroxybiphenyl and the like can be confirmed.
