PURPOSE: To obtain a highly corrosion resistant Zn-Ti alloy-plated metallic material which is homogeneous and excellent in formability and productivity and has superior corrosion resistance, by forming a vapor deposition plating layer consisting of prescribed amounts of Ti and the balance essentially Zn on the surface of a metallic base material.
CONSTITUTION: Ti and Zn are separately evaporated under vacuum of ≤about 10-2Torr by using crucibles, etc., and simultaneously vapor-deposited on the surface of a metallic base material such as copper sheet. The resulting Zn-Ti alloy constituting a plating layer has a composition consisting of 0.5W40% Ti and the balance essentially Zn. Further, corrosion preventing purpose can be sufficiently accomplished by regulating the thickness of the plating layer to ≥about 1g/m2 in general. By adopting the above-mentioned vapor deposition method of this invention, the Zn-Ti alloy plating having uniform composition can be formed from Zn and Ti remarkably different in melting point and vapor pressure without any hindrance.
