To provide a highly gas-permeable cyclic olefin addition polymer which is readily industrially producible, and has excellent gas permeability, and high thermal stability and mechanical strength, and further excellent solubility in combination, and to provide a method for producing the polymer.
The cyclic olefin addition polymer of a specific structure is obtained by carrying out addition polymerization of a cyclic olefin functional siloxane, or the cyclic olefin functional siloxane with a cyclic olefin compound using a multicomponent system catalyst containing (A) a β-diketone compound of palladium, (B) an ionic boron compound, and (C) a phosphine compound having a substituent selected from among 3-6C alkyl, cycloalkyl, and aryl. In the cyclic olefin addition polymer, the ratio of structural units derived from the cyclic olefin functional siloxane is 40-100 mol% in the addition polymer, and the number-average molecular weight (Mn) in terms of polystyrene measured by GPC (gel permeation chromatography) is 200,000-1,500,000.
