Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a coating composition which can provide both abrasion resistance and improved tintability when cured.
CONSTITUTION: The coating composition comprises (i) a dispersion of colloidal silica; (ii) about 25 to about 90 weight percent solids of a partial condensate of a silanol or a blend of silanols, based on the total solid content of the component (i) and (ii); and (iii) at least 3 weight percent to about 30 weight percent of a tintability enhancing compound containing at least one alkylated amine formaldehyde compound, based on the total solid content of the component (i), (ii) and (iii).
