PURPOSE: To ensure a holding of an electrode and a stub and to conduct a large current without hindrance by enabling an easy downward moving of a consuming electrode due to ≥3 conductive chucks provided freely shidably along a conductive barrel.

CONSTITUTION: The titled electrode and apparatus consist of the consuming electrode 11 of a metallic rod, the cylindrical shaft 18 having a power introducing part 19, a conductive barrel 13 having a tapered part 15 windened toward upward direction from an opening 14 provided at the lower end of the shaft 18, ≥3 conductive chucks 16 locating in an inner space S of the barrel 13 and holding an outer circumference of a stub 12 and a holding member 17 holding the chuck 16. Said chuck 16 surrounds the outside of the stub 12 and is held freely slidably toward radius direction against the member 17. The large current flowing from the part 19 and the shaft 18 is allowed to flow in the stub 12 and/or the electrode 11 through the barrel 13 and the chuck 16.
