Abstract:

To simply obtain in various shapes a structure supporting member to be mounted between a honeycomb body and an outer jacket made of a metal, which envelopes the honeycomb body, by manufacturing a metallic cylinder body by welding and making the cylinder body a ring shape by machining.

A gap S is formed between the honeycomb body 2 and the cylinder body 3 made of the metal, which incorporates the honeycomb body 2, and they are connected by two structure supporting bodies 1 interposed in the gap S. This structure supporting body 1 is manufactured by manufacturing an intermediate product which is the cylinder made of the metal by using heat-resistant stainless steel foil, etc., and after that, by finishing it to a hollow ring-shaped structure by machining. The cylinder body made of the metal, which is the intermediate product, is formed by forming the stainless steel foil into cylinder shape, and by performing resistance welding or laser welding to its jointing part. For the method machining the cylinder body made of the metal to a ring shaped structure supporting member 1, rollback working, necking working, bead working, etc., are applicable. The honey body 2 and the outer jacket become a heat insulation state, and they can reach quickly a catalytic activity temperature.
