PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a steel plate having good surface characteristics by shallowing the depth of oscillation mark on a continuously cast slab and removing defects on the surface of the cast slab after casting by an inexpensive method suppressive in the increase of producing cost in the case of the hot direct rolling of the continuously cast slab.
SOLUTION: In the hot direct rolling method for the continuously cast slab 1, by which a steel sheet is produced by any method among a method for directly hot-rolling the high temperature non-treated cast slab cast with a continuous caster, or a method for hot-rolling the cast slab after being heat-retained and heated so that its is almost equal to its center temperature, or a method for hot-rolling the non-treated cast slab cast with the continuous caster after being charged into a heating furnace and heated, a mold powder having relatively high viscosity at the stationary zone in the casting as compared to a cast starting period is used as the mold powder 10 to be added into a mold 6, and also the cast slab during casting or just after casting is oxidized in an oxygen- enriched atmosphere 4 to form the oxidized layer on the surface layer part of the cast slab, and the oxidized layer is removed, then the cast slab is hot- rolled.
