To provide a method of detecting a turbulence, which detects the turbulence existing in front of an aircraft, based on only scattered light in a laser beam emitted unidirectionally, without depending on a database.
The laser beam is emitted forward to acquire a wind velocity U of against wind in a measured objective area, the wind velocity U of the against wind is time-differentiated to be divided by a gravitational acceleration g, a nondimensionalized Fh factor is thereby introduced as an index value, and an absolute value ¾Fh¾ of the index value is verified over two steps by threshold values Th1, Th2. When ¾Fh¾>Th2, the presence of the turbulence in front of the aircraft is determined, a red color is displayed on an instrument panel and an alarm is issued to a cockpit to notify a pilot of the presence of the turbulence. When Th1<¾Fh¾≤Th2, the presence of the turbulence with the possibility of developing to the turbulence in front of the aircraft is determined, a yellow color is displayed on the instrument panel and an alarm is issued to the cockpit to notify the pilot of the presence of the turbulence.
