Abstract:
Identifying a compound (I) that binds specifically to the G protein-coupled receptor mas-like-1 (R) by (i) treating at least one cell that expresses R on its surface (or a preparation of the cells that contains R) with at least one test compound and (ii) detecting any binding to R. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) similar methods for identifying compounds that bind specifically to R and are competitive with respect to a first compound, or that bind specifically to R and either activate or inhibit it; (2) pharmaceutical composition containing compounds identified by the new methods; (3) use of substance P (or its cleavage products) or neuropeptide FF (a) for treating diseases associated with defects in R or (b) for preparing a complex with R; and (4) protein that comprises R to which substance P (or its cleavage products) or neuropeptide FF is bound specifically.
