To obtain the subject new nucleic acid having plural hairpin loop portions, with the intramolecular base sequence composed by an anti-sense DNA complementary to the target RNA and a sense RNA, having nuclease resistance, thus useful as, e.g. an antiviral agent.
This new hybrid DNA/RNA oligonucleotide has a base sequence of the formula (A is an adenosine residue; T is a thymidine residue; G is a guanosine residue; C is a cytidine residue; (a), (u), (g) and (c) are each corresponding ribonucleotide, the linkage between nucleotides is phosphodiester linkage; (p) is a phosphate group), etc., having at least two hairpin loop portions, with the intramolecular base sequence composed by an anti-sense DNA complementary to the target RNA and a sense RNA, and having resistance to the decomposing action by various kinds of nuclease in vivo, therefore being useful as e.g. an antiviral agent against virus such as HIV.
