To provide a process not only for the decomposition of tar but also for the recovery of hydrogen from the tar resulting a process for production of a hydrogen gas with improved hydrogen content and an apparatus for the production of hydrogen gas.
The process includes a gasificaion step of generating a gas containing hydrogen from a material containing hydrocarbons in the presence of both of steam and oxygen in a fluidized bed gasification furnace 3 and a step of passing the generated gas through a catalyst layer 10 packed with a catalyst containing more than 5 wt.% and less than 50 wt.% of Ni and more than 5 wt.% and less than 50 wt.% of CaO, to decompose tar contained in the gas and generate hydrogen from the tar.
