To provide a hydrogen generator which can efficiently generate hydrogen from a fuel at ordinary temperature and normal pressure and to provide a method for producing hydrogen desirable as the hydrogen source of a small fuel cell using the same.
The hydrogen generator comprises a combination of (A) an aqueous solution of at least one compound selected from hydrazine and a derivative thereof with (B) at least one hydrogen generation catalyst selected from among a metal having a hydrogen generating catalysis, a hydrogen storage alloy, and fluorinated products thereof and generates hydrogen by dissolving (A) at least one compound selected from hydrazine and a derivative thereof in water and bringing the obtained solution into contact with (B) at least one hydrogen generation catalyst selected from among a metal having hydrogen generating catalysis, a hydrogen storage alloy, and fluorinated products thereof.
