Abstract:
New metal zirconate-silicate-phosphate cpds. (I) contg. H or hydronium ions have the formulas Me(1+x-y)(H(+))(y)Zr (2)Si(x)P(3-x)O(12) (in which x is max. 3 and y is max. 1+x, both exceeding zero and pref. being min. 0.1. Me is a monovalent metal, pref. Na, K and/or Li). (I) are prepd. by treating a cpd. (II) of the formula Me(1+x)Zr(2)Si(x)P(3-x)O(12) with an acid aq. soln. until the Me concn. in the soln. has risen to the required value for y. (I) are specified for use as solid state electrolytes which conduct H or hydronium ions in electrochemical cells, esp. fuel cells, pH meters, detectors for determining ion concns. in aq. solns., organic solns. (e.g. pH meter) and melts, electrochromic displays, separator in H2 generators at low and high temps. or a H2 gas purifier (ion sieve) at low and high temp. They are stable enough to be used at temps. up to min. 300 deg.C.
