Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide a miniaturized hydrogen production unit increased in the catalyst surface area per unit volume thereof, thus improved in hydrogen separation efficiency.
CONSTITUTION: This hydrogen production unit, designed to obtain a hydrogen- contg. gas by reforming hydrocarbons and/or oxygen atom-contg. hydrocarbons and separate hydrogen from the hydrogen-contg. gas, is made up of a porous base body 1 and a hydrogen separation membrane 4 for selectively separating the hydrogen formed on the specified surface of the base body 1. A catalyst 3 for reforming the hydrocarbons is carried inside the fine pores of the base body 1. The catalyst 3 is carried on a honeycomb carrier, and the hydrogen separation membrane 4 is situated on the downstream side of the honeycomb carrier.
