Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a hydrogenating catalyst having high hydrogenating function for an aromatic or heterocyclic ring, resistance against a sulfur compd. and a nitrogen compd. and long life by supporting palladium and platinum on an ultra-stabilized Y-type zeolite carrier modified by heavy rare earth elements.
SOLUTION: As a carrier for supporting Pd and Pt components, an ultra- stabilized Y-type zeolite (carrier zeolite) modified by heavy rare earth elements is used. The SiO2/Al2O3 molar ratio of this carrier zeolite is about 5.0-1,000, pref., about 10-20 and, as the heavy rare earth elements, there are four elements, that is, ytterbium(Yb), gadolinium(Gd), terbium(Tb) and dysprosium(Dy). In order to modify the ultra-stabilized Y-type zeolite, at least one element selected from these heavy rare earth elements is used. Only one of palladium and platinum may be supported on the carrier zeolite but both of them are pref. supported thereon.
